Zach Edey officially declares for the NBA draft

Zach Edey has officially declared for the 2024 NBA Draft, ESPN reports.

“I felt like it was time,” the 2024 Naismith Player of the Year told ESPN. “I showed that I’m a physical presence on offense this season,” Edey said. “I also showed I can play defense. I can guard in space, even defend guards.”

Edey played college basketball at Purdue University for four seasons, a decision different from many talented players who choosed to enter the draft after just a season or two in college.

According to The Athletic, Edey finished his career at Purdue strong, averaging 25.2 points with 12.2 rebounds and 2.2 blocks on 62.3 percent shooting in 39 games.

The Athletic projects that Edey, a 7-foot-four center, will be anywhere from the no. 15 to the no. 25 pick. ESPN predicts that he will be the no. 14 pick.

Edey excited to improve his game as a professional.

“What wins in college and the NBA are totally different,” Edey said. “There are a lot of things I can do that people haven’t seen yet. I was focusing on impacting winning at Purdue and simplifying my game. Every year I’ve taken steps forward and there’s no reason I can’t keep getting better.”
