GOP presumptive presidential nominee Donald Trump is warning that Chinese migrants crossing the border from Mexico are here to build an army, the Independent News reports.
The former president now in court for the hush money trial involving adult porn star Stormy Daniels made the comments at a recent campaign stop, emphasizing the age of the men coming into the country.
“They’re coming in from China — 31, 32,000 over the last few months — and they’re all military age and they mostly are men,” Trump said during a campaign rally last month in Schnecksville, Pennsylvania. “And it sounds like to me, are they trying to build a little army in our country? Is that what they’re trying to do?”
Trump has long been criticized for demonizing the Chinese using phrases like the kung flu or Chinese virus to describe COVID-19.
The latest accusation not backed up with any facts seem to be a continuation of that.
‘They’re young, and they’re healthy. I see the pictures of them. I see them on television tapes, also,’ he said. ‘I mean, these are young, healthy people,’ he continued to Daily Mail.
Trump said that during his administration he tightened up the borders and that Biden has undid all the good he had done.
Cynthia Choi, co-founder of Stop AAPI Hate, described Trump’s comments as inflammatory.
“Trump’s dehumanizing rhetoric and blatant attacks against immigrant communities will, without question, only fuel more hate against not only Chinese immigrants but all Asian Americans in the U.S.,” she said, according to the Independent News.
