Suni Lee shines in return to all-around competition

Olympic gold medalist Suni Lee returned to all-around competition on Friday at the U.S. Gymnastics Championships for the first time since being diagnosed with kidney disease in early 2023.

Despite not competing in the all-around for over a year, Lee is currently sitting just outside medal contention. She ended the day fourth with a total score of 55.570.

Lee, who could potentially defend her Olympic all-around title in Paris this summer, began the first day of competition on the beam. The routine had a few wobbles but earned Lee a score of 14.200. She then scored a 13.250 on floor during the second rotation.

The third rotation for Lee was vault where her clean execution helped her score 14.000.

The Olympian is known for her signature performance on uneven bars but until Friday had yet to compete on the event due to her health. During the fourth and final rotation, she gave a solid bars performance. The routine did not have the difficulty she is capable of but earned her a 14.300.
