Fil Am hurdler Lauren Hoffman qualifies for Paris Olympics

Filipino American track star Lauren Hoffman has secured her spot to the Paris Olympic Games, marking a new career high.

Among numerous historic victories, Hoffman currently stands as the record holder for Duke University’s 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.67 seconds, Duke Wire reports. She has also reset the Philippines 400-meter hurdles record several times, resulting in the current 55.72 mark.

Inquirer reports that Just this year alone, she set a new record in indoor 400-meters with a 53.91-second performance at the 2024 Clemson Bob Pollock Invitational, then proceeded to outdo herself a couple weeks later with a 53.71-second run at the 2024 Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational in South Carolina.

Hoffman takes pride in her roots, representing the country wherever she competes.

“We’re all just trying to make the Philippines proud in our individual events,” she told TFC News in an interview. “It’s just kind of cool to come together in that way.”

In her Instagram post, Hoffman expressed her gratitude and excitement by sharing, “Still feels so crazy to say that [I qualified for the Olympics]. It is such an honor to join my kababayan and represent the Philippines at the upcoming Olympic Games.”

The Paris Olympics is all set to open on July 26, which the first round of women’s 400-meter hurdles taking place on August 5.
