Ex-CIA analyst accused of secretly working for South Korea

Federal prosecutors indicted a former CIA analyst for sharing nonpublic documents with the South Korean government in exchange for luxury goods.

The Korea Times reports Sue Mi Terry worked as a North Korean specialist for the CIA and the White House National Security Council for more than 10 years.

Beginning in 2013, the indictment alleges she began working as an unregistered foreign agent for the South Korean government.

Authorities says she received meals at Michelin-starred restaurants, designer goods and $37,000 through a fund she controlled, according to CNN.

Among the luxury goods were a $3,450 Louis Vuitton handbag and a $2,845 Dolce & Gabbana coat.

“At the direction of ROK Government officials, Terry advocated ROK policy positions, including in published articles and during media appearances, disclosed nonpublic U.S. Government information to ROK intelligence officers and facilitated access for ROK Government officials to U.S. Government officials,” the indictment reads.

She is now a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, but has immediately been put on administrative leave.

“The allegations are unfounded and distort the work of a scholar and news analyst known for her independence and years of service to the U.S. Dr. Terry has not held a security clearance for over a decade, and her views on matters relating to the Korean Peninsula have been consistent over many years. In fact, she was a harsh critic of the South Korean government during times this indictment alleges that she was acting on its behalf,” her lawyer, Lee Wolosky, said in a statement.

  1. Would like to see the evidence.

Teri acknowledges being a source for South Korean diplomats. But that is different from trying to steer US policy towards South Korea.
