Family seeks help finding missing teen in Southern California

Authorities and family members are searching for a missing 15-year-old girl last seen on Tuesday evening in Monterey Park, California.

Alison Jillian Chao went missing after she rode a blue mountain bike from her father’s house around 5:30 p.m., headed to her aunt’s house in San Gabriel less than four miles away, according to ABC7. Chao never arrived.

Chao’s mother Annie Chao described her daughter as bubbly, upbeat and full of energy. Annie Chao stated that her daughter has no history of running away and is a straight-A student at Mark Keppel High School, KTLA5 reported.

“It was really hard to comprehend,” Chao’s mother said. “You know, I don’t think your mind can understand what’s happening in that moment. I just, it’s been a lot of sleepless nights.”

Family and friends posted flyers in the area and at local businesses in the hopes that someone with information will come forward.

“It’s been very chaotic,” Annie Chao said. “It sounds crazy but, we don’t have a play-by-play for this kind of stuff. What do you do? As a parent, you’re making flyers, you’re contacting the news […] we were out driving around to anyone that was open […] posting up flyers. We reached out to the community.”

Chao is described as an Asian female, around five feet and two inches tall, and weighing 96 pounds. She was last seen wearing a purple t-shirt, black shorts and dark shoes.

Monterey Park Police is investigating the disappearance and urges anyone with information to call.
