Police in Alameda east of San Francisco are investigating a violent incident at a youth basketball game.
A video obtained exclusively by ABC7 News shows a member of a Filipino American youth team tumbling to the floor as an opposing player attempts to wrestle the ball from him.
As the player tries to protect the ball, a third player from the other team stomps his head with his foot.
“You could clearly see the size of his shoe on his face. My son suffered a concussion for the first time he played basketball,” said Eva Guingab, the boy’s mother, to ABC7 News.
He is now under concussion protocol. The family of the other player say their son was coming to the defense of a teammate who he believed had been kicked and punched.
His coach says that player is not playing at this time and is working to control his emotions.
“The behavior that was exhibited by our player is not acceptable and is being taken seriously,” the team said.
The incident happened Sunday at a game between Tumakbo United, a Filipino American youth team, and Payton’s Place.
