A professor at Regis University in Denver is under arrest suspected in the death of his wife after he called 911 to report he found his wife on the ground bleeding and their child not breathing, reports the Denver Post.
Investigators accused Nicholas Myklebust, 44, of killing his wife, Seorin Kim, 44, believing she died of blunt force trauma to the head and face. The coroner must still determine the cause of death of both the mother and child, but police said in a statement that she did not appear to have any injuries.
Formal charges will be decided by the Denver District Attorney’s office.
Law and Crime reports the child is just two months old. Myklebust teaches English at Regis and is being held for investigation on one count of first-degree murder.
Kim died shortly after being rushed to the hospital. Police say they arrived at the scene to find the daughter already dead. Myklebust reportedly told police that his wife fell.
9 News reports that according to an affidavit Myklebust told police his wife “must have fallen of the step ladder in the bedroom,” but authorities believe the injuries are not consistent with a fall.
Investigators described the professor as having “bruising and blood” on his knuckles and “scratches on his neck.” He is being held on $5 million cash-only bond.
Prosecutors said in court that the couple’s first child died at just 9-days old from a “cranial fracture.” No charges were filed in that case.
