The Democratic National Committee announced Friday that Vice President Kamala Harris officially has enough votes to secure the Democratic nomination for president.
CNN reports that Democrats began casting ballots in a virtual nomination on Thursday.
“I am honored to be the presumptive Democratic nominee for president of the United States,” said Harris, to the virtual gathering. “I will officially accept your nomination next week, once the virtual voting period is closed.”
She will soon become the first Asian American to ever be nominated for the country’s highest political office.
“As a Senator, as Vice President, and now as the Democratic nominee for President, Vice President Harris has been an inspiration to our nation’s 26 million AA & NH/PI community—the fastest-growing racial/ethnic group in the country,” said Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies President and CEO Madelene Mielke. “AA & NH/PI women have made great strides on our national political stage, with four women who have run for President, starting with Patsy Mink in 1972.”
The Institute says there are now 11 Asian Americans, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islanders women in Congress.
Mielke describes them as a “potent political force.”
“We are pleased that our investment in the Women’s Collective program has contributed to the growth and success of AA & NH/PI women seeking elected office,” she said in a statement to AsAmNews.
The program encourages and trains AANHPI women to become politically engaged and lead the national conversation.
Democrats rushed to get Harris nominated before the August 7th deadline set by Ohio to avoid any risks that her nomination could be legally voided, CBC reported.

It’s Fixed. There was only one name of the ballot, hers. This is a democracy and the Democrats need to allow the people who they want for President the Right to decide otherwise it is not a democracy.
