Los Angeles Dodgers Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto played a key role in boosting the World Series television ratings in Japan.
According to NBC Los Angeles, this year’s series drew in a record average of 12.9 million viewers in Japan. ESPN reports that Game 2 alone, which saw the Dodgers win 4-2, averaged 15.9 million views in Japan.
Both Ohtani and Yamamoto joined the Dodgers in 2024. Their deals appear to have increased the popularity of Major League Baseball in Japan.
According to ESPN, the MLB reported that the 2024 World Series also brought in record viewership in Canada, Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Taiwan.
