Star rookie on the 76ers embraces Filipino heritage

Jared McCain, the star rookie on the Philadelphia 76ers, recently revealed that he is Filipino American.

According to Inquirer.net, McCain mentioned his Filipino heritage during a live stream video with 76ers teammate Adem Bona.

“Shout out to my Asian community. I am a Filipino. I mean, only like 10 percent, but that counts right?” said McCain.

McCain, 20, played one season at Duke University before declaring for the 2024 NBA Draft. The Sixers selected him that year with the 16th overall pick.

According to Fadeaway World, McCain could be eligible to play for the Philippines men’s national basketball team, the Gilas Pilipinas. He would play alongside fellow NBA players Jordan Clarkson and Jalen Green.
