Philadelphia 76ers player Jared McCain, who is a contender for NBA Rookie of the Year, has been sidelined with a knee injury. McCain recently revealed in a video posted to social media that he is Filipino American.
The injury came during the Sixers game on Friday, the 13th. According to Bleacher Report, Shams Charania, from ESPN, says that McCain will be out indefinitely due to a “torn lateral meniscus in his left knee.” The injury will require surgery.
According to NBC Sports Philadelphia, McCain was averaging 15.3 points per game, the most of any rookie in the NBA.
McCain’s joyous approach to the game has made him a fan favorite.
“The joy, that’s just myself,” McCain told NBC Sports Philadelphia in an interview. “I love to smile. I just love to have fun with life. I think if you’re not having fun with life, there’s no reason to be doing this. If I’m not smiling out there, there’s no reason I should be out here. I think some people take life a little too seriously sometimes. This is supposed to be the most fun thing ever.
