Jason Momoa will return to DC as the fan favorite antihero Lobo, in the upcoming Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, as confirmed by Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter.
Momoa, who previously portrayed Aquaman in various DCEU projects, has been vocal about his interest in Lobo, even before James Gunn and Peter Safran helmed the rebooted DC Universe. His casting was also confirmed by an Instagram post, where he shared a screenshotted comment from the Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom press tour.
“So Lobo was… I collect comics, and I don’t do so much anymore, but he was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo, because I’m like, ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role,'”, said Momoa. “I mean, listen. If they call and ask me to play him, it’s a f*ck yeah. I haven’t received that call, so I don’t want to put any fake news out there, but if they ever call me and ask me to play or ask me to audition, I’m there”
Momoa simply captioned the post with “they called”.
The plot details for Supergirl: World of Tomorrow currently remain confidential. Alongside Momoa, Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon, Upright) has been cast as the title role, with Matthias Schoenaerts (Amsterdam, Red Sparrow) as Krem of the Yellow Hills, and Eve Ridley (3 Body Problem, Casualty) as Ruthye Mary Knolle.
Craig Gillespie (Cruella, I, Tonya) will direct the film from a script written by Ana Nogueira (Hightown, The Blacklist). Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is based on Tony King’s 2022 comic series of the same name. Gunn and Safran are set to produce, with DC Studio’s Executive Vice President Chantal Nong serving as the film’s executive producer.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow‘s production begins on Jan. 13, and is slated for a June 26, 2026 release date. It will also be the second feature film in the DCU after Superman, which will hit U.S. theaters on July 11.
