The Washington Post reports that aviation officials do not believe there are any survivors as both aircraft went down into the Potomac River.
U.S. Figure Skating confirms several members of the team and their families were among the 64 people on board 5342 returning from the 2025 Prevagen U.S. Figure Skating Championship.
Three U.S. soldiers were on board the helicopter.
Lane’s father Douglas remembered his son.
“Whether he was in his home club in Boston, [Spencer] was just loved by everyone,” Douglas explained to WPRI. “From adults running the club to smaller skaters, to the people that are competing for a shot at the Olympics, they all adored him.”
He described his late wife as a beautiful and creative person with a love for photography and graphic design.
“Skating is a very close and tight-knit community. These kids and their parents — they are here at our skating facility in Norwood six, sometimes seven days a week. It is a close, tight bond, and I think for all of us, we have lost family,” Zeghibe said to WCVB.
He described Lane as a “highly-talented kid” who was “rocketing to the top of the sport,” and Jinna was a “wonderful kid, great athlete, great competitor.”
None of the bodies recovered so far have been publicly identified.
Fans have already begun to post condolences on Lane’s Instagram account.
According to NBC News, Shishkova and Naumov are Russian pairs figure skating champions and a married couple. Russian media has also reported the two were on board the flight. They had been returning from a development camp in Wichita.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
(Correction: An earlier version of this story misidentified Spencer Lane’s mother)
