Former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy wants to take his cost-cutting anti-wokeism campaign to Ohio.
The tech entrepreneur announced his candidacy for governor Monday, an announcement widely expected after he resigned as co-lead with Elon Musk in Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency last month.
Ramaswamy denied he was pushed out after his controversial comments unfavorably comparing the American work ethic to that of hard-working immigrants.
Both Trump and Musk immediately endorsed Ramaswamy’s candidacy.
The Washington Post reports Ramaswamy mapped out his candidacy as one taking the president’s agenda to the states.
“President Trump is reviving our conviction in America. We require a leader here at home who will revive our conviction in Ohio,” he said in his announcement.
Ramaswamy notably did not mention his history with DOGE in a state where there are 55,000 civilian federal workers.
“I know it’s going to affect a lot of people,” said Andy Mauser, an Ohio voter said to Politico. “It’s going to put a lot of people out of work.”
Ramaswamy potentially could become the third Indian American governor in U.S. history. The others are Bobby Jindal in Louisiana (2008-2016) and Nikki Haley of South Carolina (2011-2017).
