Rising country blues star Nat Myers cancels tour to fight cancer

A rising star on the music scene has suddenly canceled his national tour after being rushed to the emergency room on February 9.

Nat Myers announced on social media Monday that he is fighting a rare cancer called sarcoma.

“What I thought was a prolonged lung infection turned out to be much more sinister, with growths round my hearts and pulmonary artery. On February 9th I entered the ER & have been in the hospital ever since. Doctors of varying humanity have given me days, or weeks to live, but I live by my odds and not there’s. I am currently lookin(g) for the next opportunities to overcome this cool deck of cards I’ve been dealt,” he wrote on Instagram.

Fox56 reports the Kentucky music community has rallied around the Korean American blues poet.

“This news has been heavy on our hearts the last few days. Nat Myers is part of our family and a huge part of the Kentucky music community. His talent is outshined only by his huge heart,” Laurel Cove Music Festival wrote. “Nat is tough as nails and we’re here to help him however we can. Please, if y’all can, donate to help our boy win this fight. We love ya, brother. Stay strong!”

The Masters Musician Festival in Somerset, KY also urged its fans to support Myers.

According to Pop Culture, Myers album Yellow Peril rose to number 1 on the blues charts in 2023.

“To have a number one blues record was unreal, and the amount of support & kinship I’ve found and have been lucky to be part of this past year has reminded me why I love playing blues in the first place,” Myers said in a previous interview.

A GoFundMe page organized to support his medical care had raised more than $75,000 as of this morning.

Myers expressed optimism about his future.

“I’ve been taken off most my iv’s, and gotten off a lot of the drugs they had me on. I’m feelin(g) better than I have since I entered this facility, and am hoping to continue my next step into my recovery and my future as a survivor. I am taking things day by day and conserving and building the energy I need to overcome this affliction. I refuse to speak from the past tense, because there is beauty and life in the struggle I am currently fighting, and I will overcome this. My next quest is to access/gain contact with as many cancer facilities to access more proper care for what I need to succeed over this cancer. I do not know how long this fight will take, but I know so long as my heart beats I will overcome this.
