Materialists, Celine Song’s newest project after the critically acclaimed Past Lives, has been given a June 13 release.
The opening date was confirmed by A24 on social media on Tuesday. Starring Dakota Johnson (Madame Web, The Peanut Butter Falcon), Chris Evans (Deadpool & Wolverine, Knives Out), and Pedro Pascal (Gladiator II, The Last of Us), the romantic comedy follows a young matchmaker (Johnson) in New York City who finds herself split between her “perfect match and her imperfect ex”, reported both Deadline and Variety.
In addition to Johnson, Evans, and Pascal, Materialists also stars Zoe Winters, Marin Ireland (The Boogeyman, The Umbrella Academy), Dasha Nekrasova (The Beast, Succession), and Louisa Jacobson (The Gilded Age), per The Hollywood Reporter.
Materialists was written, directed, and produced by Song. 2AM’s David Hinojosa (Omni Loop, Past Lives) and Killer Film’s Christine Vachon (A Different Man, May December) and Pamela Koffler (A Good Person, She Came to Me) also serve as producers.
Materialists was filmed from April to June 2024 in New York City. It’s June release sparked rumors of a world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival a month earlier.
Song earned two Oscar nominations for her debut film, Past Lives. One for best picture and the other for original screenplay.
