Man pleads to charges of ethnic intimidation

A man accused of ramming his vehicle into a man walking his dog in eastern Michigan has pled to lesser charges.

Mohammed Meah, 63, entered pleas of no contest to ethnic intimidation and assault, reported The Macomb Daily in exchange for having an attempted murder charge dropped.

Meah, who is Bangladeshi American, is accused of intentionally striking with his vehicle a White man who Meah accused of being racist.

The incident happened in January of last year in Sterling Heights on 15 Mile and Dodge Park roads.

The Oakland Press reports the judge capped his maximum sentence to 14 months in prison as opposed to 10 years in prison if found guilty of attempted murder.

The defense had indicated that their client would have pled diminished capacity if attempted murder charges had been pursued.

Meah is currently out of $100,000 bail and on house arrest while out of prison.
