A New Jersey politician has been arrested in connection with an illegal gambling bust, ABC 7 reports.
Anand Shah, a Prospect Park council member, was among 40 people arrested in connection with the bust. According to a press release from the New Jersey Attorney General’s office, Shah allegedly managed illegal poker games and an online sportsbook in association with the Lucchese Crime Family.
Mohamed T. Khairullah, the mayor of Prospect Park, acknowledged Shah’s arrest in a social media post.
“I want to reaffirm that this administration holds all public officials to the highest standards of ethics and accountability. Our commitment to lawful and transparent governance remains firm,” Khairullah wrote on his Facebook page.
