Police in Austin, TX are investigating the vandalism of three mosques there- all reportedly in the same night.
The Austin Statesmen Journal reports the graffiti includes the Stars of David which a vandal spray painted at Nueces Mosque, Islamic Ahlul Bayt Association (IABA), and the Austin Diyanet Center.
The Nueces Mosque alone has reported four hate-related incidents since October.
“These three incidents, which reportedly took place at the same night, were apparently targeted attacks meant to instill fear and division,” said CAIR-Austin Operations Manager Shaimaa Zayan. “One of the mosques affected, Nueces Mosque, serves as a vital spiritual and cultural center for UT Austin university students. The impact of such hateful acts on young minds cannot be overstated.
A fundraising campaign publicized by the Council of American-Islamic Relations or CAIR-Texas is just getting underway to fund security at the three mosques.
“It’s so sad and very scary,” said Zayan to Fox7 Austin. “It’s a shame to target worship places.”
