Indian Americans are gaining more and more seats in President-elect Joe Biden’s administration, Hindustan Times reports. Biden named two more Indian Americans to key positions Tuesday.
Vinay Reddy was selected as director of speechwriting, Hindustan Times reports, while Gautam Raghavan was selected as deputy director of the Office of Presidential Personnel.
“These experienced individuals are joining my administration to carry out policies that will put our nation on a path to building back better than ever before,” Biden said. “They are respected leaders whose values and priorities align with my own and who will dutifully execute their roles to serve the American people.”
Reddy, slated to be director of speechwriting, is a longtime member of the Biden team having worked with the President-elect when he was vice president for the Obama administration.
Raghavan also worked under the Obama administration, Hindustan Times reports, and will help select appointees to federal positions.
Other Indian American appointees have included Bharat Ramamurti for deputy director of the National Economic Council, Vivek Murthy for surgeon general, and Neera Tanden for Office of Management and Budget director.
The appointments come just as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell promised Monday to hold votes on Biden’s cabinet picks in the coming year, The Hill reports.
“They (Biden’s nominees) aren’t all going to pass on a voice vote, and they aren’t all going to make it, but I will put them on the floor,” McConnell said.
According to the Hill, Tanden, Biden’s pick for the Office of Management and Budget, will require confirmation for her Cabinet-level position.
Katherine Tai, Biden’s pick for U.S. Trade Representative, will also require confirmation.
