Police in St. Paul are on the lookout for two suspects caught on video spray painting a White supremacist slogan on the Hmong Cultural Center Museum, reports WCCO4.
A museum employee arrived at the museum to find the damage. Plywood placed over the windows during the unrest associated with the George Floyd protests had been decorated with a poem of Black pride by Tish Jones.
Graffiti vandals covered the poem with white paint and the slogan “life, liberty, victory,” which is associated with the fascist Patriot Front. The culprits also caused damage to the lock.
“They came in one car together, and they all came out at the same time and started spraying, and it lasted a couple of minutes, but they did a lot,” said program director Mark Pfeifer to MPR News. “It’s a big mess.”
The Minnesota Asian Pacific Caucus reacted to the incident.
“We are deeply troubled that words and slogans associated with a White supremacist movement were found on the storefront’s vandalized panels. We call on Minnesotans to condemn such acts of cowardness and bigotry,” it said.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations urged authorities to declare the incident a hate crime and called on legislators to pass hate crime legislation.
