442ndIt’s was 70 years in the making. An exhibition displaying the Congressional Gold Medal presented to members of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team and 100th Infantry Battalion has come to San Francisco, reports the SF Examiner.

About two dozen members of those decorated Japanese American units were on hand Saturday for the official opening at the deYoung Museum in San Francisco.

The exhibition in the lobby of the deYoung is free and small. Just a small glass case and a sign. But free film lecture series in conjunction with the exhibit will also be shown  on certain days.

The medal will be on display in San Francisco through August 4. More information can be found at www.deyoungmuseum.org

The exhibition will also be shown in Honolulu, Los Angeles, Chicago, Portland, Ore., and the Holocaust Museum in Houston.
