Cleveland Guardian Steven Kwan doubled in a 6-3 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks and extended his hitting streak to 16 games Tuesday night, reported ESPN.
Despite the loss, Kwan has been one of the keys for the surprising Guardians this year. The team sits in second place just one game back of the Minnesota Twins in the American League Central Division.
“I think it’s just the culture of the team,” Kwan said about the team’s success to MLB.com. “It’s just working as a team together. So if we can do that, we can be successful.”
After cooling off from his hot start which had him getting 18 hits in his first five games, the rookie outfielder has settled down and is batting .298 for the season.
He’s gone 26 for 72 in the last 16 games and is batting .361.
“He’s beyond his years,” said manager Terry Francona to Sports Illustrated. “He’s learning so fast and I don’t know if you can teach someone where the strike zone is, but he’s a keeper.”
Kwan grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and has a Japanese American mother who played competitive volleyball and a Chinese American father. He won the College World Series with the Oregon State Beavers in 2018.
