One hundred and twenty-one years ago today, the first Korean immigrants arrived in the United States. Every year the contributions of Korean Americans are celebrated on January 13, Korean American Day.
U.S. President Joe Biden and the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) released statements commemorating Korean American Day.
“Today, Korean Americans continue to enrich our country as entrepreneurs, lawyers, public servants, Service members, and so much more. The Korean American community represents the very best of who we are as a Nation. May we continue to honor these proud Americans for all they have done to strengthen our country for many years to come,” Biden said in a statement.
In 2023, Korean Americans celebrated the 120th anniversary of Koreans in the country. CAPAC executive member Rep. Andy Kim (D-NJ) hopes that the country continues to honor their contributions.
“Just last year we marked 120 years of contributions by the Korean American community to our nation. It’s been special to join together with so many people to celebrate contributions that often go underappreciated and give them the recognition they deserve,” Rep. Kim said in a statement. “We must build off this energy of celebration and unity for the sake of generations to come. As a valuable and inherent part of the American story, on Korean American Day we reflect on the impact Korean American culture, history, and communities have had across our nation for over a century and will continue to have for the centuries to come.”
