For many Americans, the COVID-19 pandemic was a wake-up call to anti-Asian racism and violence. Americans were surprised and alarmed by explicit prejudice and discrimination directed toward Asian Americans. But this kind of hate is not new for Asian Americans and how Asian Americans respond varies quite a bit. The drive-by racial epithet is one of the cowardly ways people show their animus toward Asian Americans.
Martin and Rich Lee are second-generation Korean American brothers. Martin is a retired elementary school teacher and the illustrator of the strip. Rich is a professor of psychology in Asian American studies at the University of Minnesota and writes the content.
