Korean American and Olympic gold medalist Sammy Lee (photo from usctrojan.com) attended the dedication of a school in Los Angeles named in his honor this week, reports KoreAm.
The Dr. Sammy K Lee Medical and Health Science Magnet Elementary School is the third school in the Los Angeles Unified School District to be named for a Korean American, but this is the first time a Korean American received this honor while still alive.
The students sang a special song in his honor with lyrics perfect for the occasion.
“You overcame so much discrimination/ Your perseverance became an inspiration,” sang the students to the tune of Gangham Style.
To that, Lee replied “One day this school will be named after one of you.”
