Pegula one of 4 Americans in U.S. Open semifinals

Jessica Pegula Wednesday night advanced to her first semifinals in a grand slam tournament of her career.

She dominated number 1 seeded Iga Swiatek 6-2,6-4 reports USA Today.

It’s been a long journey for Pegula to get this far. Earlier this year, she separated from her coach David Witt. She had previously played in six grand slam quarterfinals since 2021 and lost them all.

“I know everyone keeps asking me about it, but I was like, ‘I don’t know what else to do. I just need to get there again and win the match,'” Pegula told ESPN, reported CBS. “So thank God I was able to do it and finally, finally, I can say semifinalist.”

Pegula played perhaps her best tennis of the year while Swiatek had a day she’d rather forget as she tried to fight through 19 unforced errors.

Yahoo Sports reports Pegula broke serve against Swiatek- the first time that has happened to her in 26 games. Swiatek had hoped to end her time at the Open walking away with her sixth grand slam title, but it was not to be.

She goes on to face Karolína Muchová at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Thursday.

Pegula is one of four Americans to advance to the semifinals. The others are Emma Navarro, Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe
