In honor of his Hawaiian roots, pro football champion Kimo von Oelhoffen is auctioning off his Super Bowl ring to benefit his old high school.
Heritage Auctions is handling the sale of 2005 Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl XL championship ring, with bids Friday exceeding $19,000.
He plans to donate the proceeds to Molokai High School to improve to its football facilities.
“So ultimately, we would like to try to build a facility, training facility, increased facilities, to try and bring the younger kids in, and not just the high school, but start a little bit younger and develop a culture of discipline and training,” von Oelhoffen said, in a report on Hawaii News Now.
Von Oelhoffen played defensive tackle in the NFL for 14 seasons. He is also an inductee in the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame.
