Two Vietnamese artists have achieved a significant milestone with nominations for the 2025 Grammy Awards, a testament to the growing influence of Vietnamese talent on the global stage.
As reported by both Vietnam News and VietnamNet, Vietnamese American soprano Sangeeta Kaur, born Mai Xuân Loan, has been nominated for Best Classical Compendium for her album Mythologies II. This album, inspired by Greek myths, features collaborations with esteemed artists, including Israeli soprano Hila Plitmann, tenor Omar Najmi, pianist Robert Thies, and composer Danaë Xanthe Vlasse. Kaur previously won a Grammy in 2022 for her earlier work on Mythologies, further solidifying her reputation in classical music.
Director Bảo Nguyễn also garnered recognition with a nomination for Best Music Film for his documentary The Greatest Night in Pop. The film provides an intimate behind-the-scenes look at the making of the iconic 1985 charity single “We Are the World,” which featured music legends such as Lionel Richie and Michael Jackson. The documentary has been widely acclaimed, earning a 98% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and three 2024 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Documentary.
These Grammy nominations highlight the exceptional contributions of Vietnamese artists to the international music and entertainment industries. The 2025 Grammy Awards ceremony will take place in Los Angeles on February 2, 2025.
