Kelly Marie Tran to headline psychological thriller ‘Kodak SuperXX’

Kelly Marie Tran is set to star as one of the leads in the upcoming indie psychological thriller film Kodak SuperXX, alongside David Dastmalchian (Late Night with the Devil, The Suicide Squad).

As described by Deadline, Kodak SuperXX is set in Los Angeles and stars Tran (Raya and the Last Dragon, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker) as Linh, a quiet, solitary woman who works as a darkroom developer in one of LA’s last boutique photo labs. However, her life takes a “paranoid turn” when she meets a mysterious stranger (Dastmalchian) whose photographs hold a dark secret.

According to IMDb, Kodak SuperXX will be directed by Auden Bui in her feature directorial debut and is written by Tony Rettenmaier (They Cloned Tyrone, Shooting Stars). Dastmalchian, Rettenmaier, Jen Iacobino, and Juel Taylor will produce the film under Good Fiend Films, alongside Death Ground’s Jesse Ford, Josh Feldman, and Sean King O’Grady. Robinwood7’s Feras M. Shammami is slated as the project’s executive producer.

Tonally, the film has been compared to Dan Gilroy’s Nightcrawler and Francis Ford Coppala’s The Conversation.

“Good Fiend Films is excited to be helping bring this story to the screen with a director of powerful vision and the artists who will shape the world of KODAK SuperXX,” said Dastmalchian and Iacobino to Deadline. “This haunting and complex narrative explores the murky shadows of human nature in a way that invites audiences to be challenged, entertained and transported.”

“I’m excited to embark on this journey with Kelly and David to create a film that aims to provoke, challenge and hopefully leave audiences both uncomfortable and turned on,” said Bui

Kodak SuperXX is expected to go into production next year.
