Fans theorize themes for potential Olivia Rodrigo album

The success of Olivia Rodrigo’s first two albums, Sour and Guts, have generated widespread anticipation for her next big release. According to ScreenRant, even as Rodrigo is currently on world tour for her second album Guts, fans are already looking forward to her third album.

In an October 2024 interview, Rodrigo stated that she hopes to take a break after the Guts tour comes to a close. However, since she has also said that writing songs is a form of therapy for her and that she’s always doing it, listeners do not believe that she will be taking a break from writing.

Russh notes that Rodrigo waited around 2 years between her Sour and Guts releases, and that if this pattern continues, her third album would come this year. In an Instagram post, Olivia Rodrigo captioned a travel post: “everywhere but that damn studio.” Fans responded to and commented that the caption was a bluff, and that they believe she has already finished working on the third album.

The Teen Magazine speculates that since Rodrigo seems to be a new stage of her life, in the midst of a steady relationship with actor Louis Partridge, her new music could be centered around themes of love and hope— a contrast to her first two albums, in which she sang about heartbreak. In addition, Rodrigo has been moving away from her purple color scheme and appearing more in red, a color linked to love, in performances and GUTS deluxe visuals.

As for the album name, Rodrigo has hinted that she will be continuing the pattern of four letter album titles. On Jimmy Kimmel Live, she jokes about her producer Dan Nigro and how at the end of her song Teenage Dream, he asks, “What should the next four-letter album title be? FART?”

RUSSH reports that the leading theory amongst her fanbase is that the album will be titled LUCK. On X, a fan has noted that Rodrigo has been wearing a lot of polka dots, a symbol of prosperity in Filipino culture, and using the ladybird emoji frequently in posts. Rodrigo has also captioned a birthday post, “I feel like the luckiest girl alive!!”
