Fertility clinic bombing suspect found dead in jail cell

A Washington state man accused of supplying the materials used to blow up a fertility clinic in Palm Springs has been found dead in his jail cell.

The Washington Post reports no formal cause of death has been released, but his attorney says his client appears to have committed suicide.

Daniel Park is accused of supplying 270 pounds of ammonium nitrate, a material used in homemade explosives, to Guy Edward Bartkus, who died in the attack.

“It’s just a very sad day for the family,” Peter Hardin told the Post.

Authorities tracked him down in Poland where he is believed to have fled after the May 17 attack. He was brought back to the U.S. following his arrest and jailed at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles since June 13.

They found him unresponsive in his jail cell Tuesday morning.

“Responding employees initiated life-saving measures,” the Department of Justice said in a statement to NBC News. “Emergency medical services (EMS) were requested while life-saving efforts continued.”

They rushed him to a local hospital where they pronounced him dead.

According to the Post, authorities considered the bombing an “intentional act of terrorism.” They describe both Bartkus and Park of sharing extreme ideology in limiting or reducing the world’s population. They also both oppose abortion while believing that one should bring about their own death as soon as possible to end future suffering.
