An archive based in Philadelphia has become a repository for South Asian American history, reports Philly.com.
The South Asian American Digital Archive was founded by Samip Mallick and Michelle Caswell in 2008 in Chicago before moving to Philadelphia in 2012.
“We are not creating a new history; we’re just uncovering stories that have already happened,” Mallick said. “For us it’s really exciting to tell those stories, those overlooked aspects of the American story that have never been told before.”
The archives doesn’t take possession of historical materials. Instead it digitally archives them and makes them available online.
