Hope that North Korea would at least be open to talking about releasing American Kenneth Bae from a labor camp have been dashed, reports NBC.
An invitation for American Special envoy Robert King to travel to Pyongyang for a meeting about Bae have been cancelled by North Korea for a second time.
“We are deeply disappointed by the DPRK (North Korean) decision — for a second time — to rescind its invitation for Ambassador (Robert) King to travel to Pyongyang to discuss Kenneth Bae’s release,” State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said. “The DPRK announced publicly in May 2013 that it would not use the fate of Kenneth Bae as a political bargaining chip,”
Meanwhile, Jesse Jackson has offered to go to North Korea to try to win Bae’s release.
Bae has been in a prisoner in North Korea since November 2012 and was convicted of trying to use religious activities to overthrow the government.
