17-year old Eric Chen of California took home the top prize of $100,000 at the Intel Science Talent Search, reports NBC (photo from Intel).
Chen used supercomputers at the University of California, San Diego to work on anti-flu drugs that would trip up the enzymes that viruses use to spread.
Second place went to Kevin Lee of Irvine, California. Kevin took home $75,000 for his work on irregular heart beats.
The fifth spot and $30,000 went to Natalie Ng of Cupertino. The judges recognized her research into accurately predicting the spread of breast cancer cells.
$20,000 was awarded each to Anand Srinivasan of Roswell, Ga and Shaun Datta of North Potomac, Md.
Datta won tenth place for his research into nuclear matter and Srinivasan was awarded 8th place for developing a computer model to analyze certain patterns in DNA.
