Minidoka: An American Concentration Camp is a rare glimpse of some of the 9,000 Japanese Americans imprisoned at the site 17 miles northeast of Twin Falls, Idaho (photo from IMLS Digital Collection).
Not only does the book look back at Minidoka’s history, but it takes us to the present time and shows us what happened to some of the prisoners there.
Author and photographer Teresa Tamura recently talked to the Idaho Mountain Express about her book.
I started to work on the book because it is an important subject with few sources available specifically about this ‘camp,’ said Tamura.
“What started as a book about a place evolved into vignettes about the people connected to Minidoka and the artifacts that remain. It brings the story into the present by talking about these people now.
You can find out a little more about Tamura and how this book came about in the Idaho Mountain Express.
