Is Jackie Chan anti-American?
He really isn’t, but he’s giving bloggers plenty of ammunition with his comments that the United States is “the most corrupt in the world.”
Chan is a staunch supporter of China. He was responding to criticism of recent censorship issues involving a popular newspaper. You can read a transcript of the interview in the Washington Post which puts the whole controversy into context.
This isn’t the first time the star of such blockbusters as Rumble in the Bronx and Rush Hour has made controversial statements in support of China. He’s criticized Taiwan and Hong Kong as examples of what can go wrong if people have too much freedom. He admits in the interview that China has its own problems, but says those are best discussed behind closed doors. To the outside world, he will only say China is the greatest.
