The Park Service has begun the process to restore the Tule Lake Segregation Center Jail, reports the Siskiyou Daily News.
The jail was used to house those incarcerated who were deemed as troublemakers because they protested the forced detention without trial of 110,000 Japanese Americans during World War II.
Tule Lake was the only incarceration camp to have such a maximum security facility.
It was used from 1944 until Tule Lake’s closure in 1946.
Online comments about the jail restoration project are being solicited from the public and can be made at parkplanning.nps.gov/tule.
The deadline is August 6.
