Turns out young Eddie Huang isn’t the only one in the family trying to fit in on Fresh Off the Boat.
Mom Jessica is having her own issues with the neighborhood moms.
In tonight’s first episode in its regular time slot at 8 Eastern/Pacific & 7 Central on ABC, Jessica (Constance Wu) learns she doesn’t have a whole lot in common with the other women on the block.
Her only companion turns out to be the neighborhood black sheep, Honey (Chelsey Crisp). She’s a gorgeous woman who happens to be married to a man who easily could be her father.
While Jessica figures out her space, Eddie (Hudson Yang) escapes into his world of hip hop CDs and confronts his raging male hormones. Oh, did I mention Eddie has a liking for Honey too.
Jessica and Eddie’s relationship with Honey causes problem for both of them.
How they get into their predicaments and how they get out of it is some fodder for some good comedy.
Fresh Off the Boat introduced the concept in the pilot, but now the writer’s can really begin to develop the characters and we’re already beginning to see that.
This episode is the first of two airing tonight. A second original episode airs immediately following this one.
