Voice of America: Korean American Deli Owner’s Art Work on Display At Smithsonian (Video)

Korean ConstitutionYou don’t normally associate a deli owner with producing museum quality art work. But that’s what Kwon Myoung-Won does every day. Kwon puts in 16 hour days at his market. When he’s not ringing up the cash register, he lays out the rice paper and with calligraphy brush in hand, repeats Korean letters or hanja characters over and over until a fabulous graphic image appears.

Words can’t do Kwon’s work justice. Among the many exhibitions of his work is a permanent display at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. You can see Kwon in action in this story for the Voice of America.

I was captivated watching Kwon produce his unique Korean American art form. Check it out and let AsAmNews know what you think by commenting below.
