The first of several television programs with Asian Americans in lead roles has been renewed for another season.
Netflix has announced it will bring back Master of None starring Aziz Ansari for a second season in 2017, reported Variety.
Ansari created the program about his life as a single Indian American traversing life and the dating scene with showrunner Alan Yang who he worked with on NBC’s Parks and Recreation.
The program also features Kelvin Yu in a supporting role. Anziz’s parents have also appeared on the show as his parents on the program.
Netflix’ decision should not come as a surprise. Master of None has been met with enthusiasm from both fans and critics in its 10-episode first season.
Other programs featuring Asian Americans in lead roles this season include Into the Badlands on AMC starring Daniel Wu, Quantico on ABC starring Priyanka Chopra, Dr. Ken with Ken Jeong on ABC, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend with Vincent Rodriquez on the CW, Elementary with Lucy Liu on CBS and Fresh Off the Boat with Randall Park and Constance Wu on ABC.
Almost all those programs, if not all, are likely to be renewed, but most announcements won’t come into the spring.
