The Congressional Gold Medal awarded to members of the Japanese American 442nd Regimental Combat Team, the 100th battalion and the Military Intelligence Service will be on display in Hawaii March 9 – April 14th, reports the LA Times,
The tour is part of a traveling Smithsonian exhibit, “American Heroes: Japanese-American WWII Nisei Soldiers and the Congressional Gold Medal.”
The medal honors members of the three military units during World War II who risked their lives for a country who put their loved ones and friends in incarceration camps without a trial.
The Congressional Gold Medal along with the Presidential Medal of Freedom are the highest civilian honors awarded in the United States.
