Season three of Fresh Off the Boat debuts tomorrow night at its new time, 9/8 Central on ABC.
The episode which originates from Taiwan begins where last year’s season finale left off. In that episode, Gene (Ken Jeong) came from Taiwan to visit his brother Louis (Randall Park) and to announce his upcoming marriage.
This time the tables are turned with the Huangs visiting Gene in Taiwan for the wedding.

The episode is shot on location in Taipei with a local Taiwanese production crew.
Once again sibling rivalry rears its funny head. Louis meets Gene’s beautiful fiance Margaret (Wei Ning Hsu or Tiffany Ann Hsu) and sees the good life Gene has in Taiwan. Some of the best scenes center around Louis’ ability or inability to cope with his brother’s success. Louis also questions why he immigrated to America and wonders if it would have been better to stay in Asia.
Eddie (Hudson Yang) kicks off the season with one of his most memorable episodes. He pines for his girlfriend Allison (Isabella Alexander) and fears his time apart from her will tempt her to find a new boyfriend. His angst provides for some good comedic moments. It’s great to see the growth of Hudson’s acting chops in just two seasons.
This is yet a new time slot for Fresh Off the Boat. It’s had so many different time slots I’ve lost track. Hopefully the audience will be able to find the program. It’s sandwiched between the new show American Housewife and The Real O’Neals, a mid-season replacement last year now in its second season. Clearly ABC expects Fresh Off the Boat to attract an audience on its own and to help anchor its Tuesday night line up.
Tuesday’s night season premier is a good beginning.
