55 restaurant workers have been detained by Immigration and Custom Enforcement officers in Mississippi.

The raids were the results of a year-long investigation and occurred at eight restaurants this week mostly from the Ichiban chain, but also at China Buffet and Sake Sushi.

The Clarion-Ledger reported that all the workers arrested were undocumented.

As word of the raids spread, many workers stayed away from work.

“Right now, the paranoia and sense of fear is overwhelming,” said Ramiro Orozco, an immigration attorney told the Los Angeles Times. “All the raids and the rhetoric coming from the new administration have created so much anxiety. We’re getting to the point that people are pulling their children out of school, they’re not going to work.”
