This is freaking crazy.
How does a disagreement over line jumping turn into racial insults and an assault that sends an Asian man into the hospital?
It happened at the OC Night Market in Costa Mesa, California just this past Sunday.
J Kuva Huyn, a student at Cal State Fullerton, posted about it on his Facebook page and is urging everyone to share his post. As of this writing, it’s been shared more than 1750 times.
According to Erin Chew from our partners at YOMYOMF, the victim’s name is Henri. His last name isn’t being revealed because the suspects are still out there.
Henri was beaten so badly he’ll need dental surgery and is recovering from lacerations to the face.
Erin has a few choice words for the perpetrators in her blog post.
Henri’s friends have launched a Go Fund Me page to help with the cost of treatment.
I’m not a therapist, but the root cause of this seems obvious to me.
The suspects likely have a lack of self esteem.
Why else would they feel the need to beat someone up because they weren’t allowed to jump the line? Their minds work something like this. I’ve been shown up. I didn’t get what I want. Others near me saw that I was shown up. I have to do something to show that you don’t mess with me. Hey, lets just beat the guy up.
It shouldn’t take violence to make someone feel better about themselves. As someone who spent a good amount of time during my college years working with youth, and as a father of two, I’ve spent a lot of time boosting the self esteem of our youth. This isn’t psychobabble. This is real life. Do your part and be a friend to a child in need of a boost.
