BTS, a popular K-Pop band, dropped another hit single last Friday, featuring part-Indian American rapper Nicki Minaj.
BTS’s most recent album, “Love Yourself: Tear”, topped the Billboard 200 charts, becoming the first Korean band ever to rank number one on this coveted list.
The special collaboration track won’t be sold on the physical album, but is available separately in digital format. The original version of the song, “Idol”, was released on Friday and has racked up nearly 73 million views. It broke the music video record for most number of views in the first 24 hours, generating over 55 million hits.
According to The Straits Times, Minaj has confirmed that a music video of Idol featuring her will be released in a couple of days. The audio version was also released on YouTube last Friday and has generated 3 million views so far. According to CBS News, BTS approached Minaj to be featured on one of their tracks after completing their album.
On Friday, Minaj instagrammed a screenshot of the track, now available on iTunes, to congratulate the K-pop group. She ended her caption: “S/O to #KOREA !!”.

Earlier this year, Minaj found herself in hot water with the Asian American community, after her Saturday Night Live performance of her song “Chun-Li.” She was accused of cultural appropriation for wearing chopsticks in her hair and costuming dancers with rice paddy hats and skimpy samurai-like outfits. Another viewer described the show as a “lazy mishmash of multiple Asian stereotypes.”
