Asian Week: Battle for 2nd Place Could be Key in Defeating @RepMikeHonda

Ro KhannaIt’s 14 months before the June 2014 Congressional primary and already the political blogosphere is on fire in anticipation of a showdown between Silicon Valley entrepreneur and former Obama official Ro Khanna and six term Rep. Mike Honda (D-San Jose).

But a breakdown by Samson Wong in Asian Week says the real showdown will be for second place.

Honda handily beat his Republican opponent, Dr. Evelyn Li 73 to 26% in the 2012 election. The way Wong sees it, Khanna will need to surpass Li’s 26 percent vote total to set up a general election battle with Honda.

Wong suspects one strategy might be for Honda supporters to give soft money to Li or other candidates as a way of slowing down Khanna. It’s a risky strategy and an interesting one.

You can read more of Wong’s thoughts in Asian Week.
