Darren Criss who’s mother is from the Philippines told the assembled media backstage at the Golden Globes “It’s a great privilege” to be Filipino, reported Deadline.
The San Francisco native was riding a high from his Golden Globe last night for Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series. He played serial killer Andrew Cunanan in FX’s The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.
“I’ve said this before, but being half Filipino is one of my favorite things about me,” he said backstage at the Golden Globes. “I feel like I have been given a superhero cape and I am glad to step up to that plate.”
While on stage accepting the award, Criss gave a shout out to his mom.
“It’s been a marvelous year for representation in Hollywood, and I’m so enormously proud to be a teeny tiny part of that as the son of a firecracker Filipino woman from Cebu,” said Criss.
“Mom, I know you’re watching this. You are hugely responsible for most of the good things in my life. I love you dearly. I dedicate this to you.”
