Indian American Senator Hopes To Promote Cricket In New York

The state of New York has set its sight on creating a new board whose target is to “promote and grow the game of cricket,” according to a recently-introduced bill.

Indian American State Senator Kevin Thomas authored the bill. A week after the bill’s introduction, he tweeted the announcement.

The bill’s “Justification” section says that the sport, which was first played in England in the 14th century, has grown globally.

“Today, billions of people that live across continents and regions ranging from the Caribbean, to Europe, to Africa and South Asia play cricket,” the bill reads. “In North America cricket is gaining popularity, thanks to the huge influx of immigrants from these regions.”
